Mead on track at Slade Green

Slade Green 0 Thamesmead Town 4

By reporter Kevin White

Thamesmead put in a first class performance to score four second half goals to overcome Slade Green at The Small Glen.

Mead dominated possession in the first half but failed to convert any chances while goalkeeper Sam Mills was never tested.

Thamesmead came out a determined side in the second half and it only took four minutes from the restart for a moment of Rikki Cable brilliance to open the scoring. On the byline at the edge of the area, Cable tricked two Green defenders with a step over to allow him to cut in to the box and curl a shot in to the far corner of the Green goal around the diving Tedder.

Mead continued to work the ball down both flanks creating many chances without any luck. It was only a matter of time before Mead doubled there lead, but not before Slade Green's first shot on target on 70 minutes, when a breakaway lead to a powerful shot being turned around the post by Mills.

Mead did eventually double there lead on 78 minutes when Rikki Cables initial shot on the edge of the box was deflected back to him, where he managed to find space to fire home low from 25 yards.

From here Mead were on cruise control, with Sammy Thomas using his pace on the left wing to threaten Greens defence. On 84 minutes, Thomas managed to put in the perfect cross which reached Dean Burns just inside the six yard box to nod home. 3-0.

On 88 minutes, Scott Mulholland calmly stepped up to exquisitely curl home a free kick from 25 yards in the top right hand corner to provide Mead with a 4-0 victory.

A confident attacking display, which must be replicated on Tuesday night at Herne Bay in the 2nd leg the Premier Division Cup semi-final second leg.

Line-up: Mills, Thomas, Deadman (Stewart 63) Brown, Kearly, Stirling, Mulholland, Knight, Burns (Loveridge 84), Cable, Williams (Dawson 85).
