Under 18's latest reports

Latest reports of Under 18's from their manager Martin Down will appear here each week;

Sunday 18th December 2011
Thamesmead Town 2 v 4 Herne Bay FC (Kent Under 18 Cup)

The Mead welcomed for the second time Herne Bay f.c to Bayliss Avenue with the pitch being inspected it was touch and go if the game was going ahead.
But to everyone's delight Mr Darcy gave the thumbs up.

With Martin missing some key players he re-shuffled the starting line up but still had the pace and fire power to hopefully win the game.

The game started and it was all Thamesmead playing some good football and getting some really joy playing through the heart of the away defence with long high ball and low through balls.

Within the first 20 mins The Mead could have been 4 up but it took until the 28th min for Mead striker Marlon Thomas to fire home the deserved lead.
But on 33 mins gone Thamesmead let a soft goal in when a mistake at the back left the away striker to slot home 1-1

Thamesmead were still wasting chances at the other end and if they had put all the chances away at the half time interval it could have been 7-1 and job done
1-1 half time.

The second half started and this is were the Ref came into his own on 52 mins a shoulder to shoulder challenge in the box was seen by Mr Darcy as a penalty for Herne Bay which was a very poor decision. Rilwan The Mead keeper got a hand to the ball but just couldn't keep it out 1-2 52 mins.

Thamesmead still had the majority of the possession and were still creating clear chances put not punishing the away side

on 61 mins The Mead drew level a flick on by Josh Froggatt found Thomas who coolly slotted home 2-2 61 mins.

Herne bay came back on 83 mins with a soft goal and finished the game of when The Mead had to push to get back on terms on 88 mins

2-4 final score.

After the match Martin commented
...................................................
In the last two Kent games we have scored 12 and 10 and this should have been double figures again we should have had the game finished in the first half but our finishing today was awful. We played some good stuff and our pace was to much for them but if you don't put the ball in the net you don't win games.
What is annoying we didn't just miss 1 or 2 we missed 9 or 10 chances but Give Herne Bay their due they dug in and worked hard for this result so good luck to them.

Man of the match
..........................
My man of the match today was Darrel he worked really hard in the centre of the park today and played some good stuff a brilliant performance well done Darrel.
