Dreams can come true, for Momodu
A first goal for the Reserves by youth team forward Gabriel Momodu was the highlight of this Division One/Two League Cup match, away against Erith and Belvedere, as the Reserves progressed through to the next round.
A great start was made, with captain Dan Willis giving the Mead the lead within the first 40 seconds, heading home a Chris Borchescu corner.
It was then the referees turn to take centre stage. After only 8 minutes he sent off the Deres centre half, after what was deemed to be a dangerous challenge on keeper Adam Woodward.
Minutes later, Momodu put the game "out of reach", heading home at the far post. The remainder of the game after this turned into a bit of a non event, with both keepers rarely troubled.
There was still time at the end however for Lea Dawson to round the keeper, with his trickling goal bound effort cleared off the line.
Another win for the Reserves, which see's them still chasing silverware in all competitions.
The Reserves are without a fixture this weekend, but entertain Herne Bay in the Kent Intermediate Cup next Wednesday night (26.11.08) 19.45 kick off. They then travel to Bridon Ropes the following Saturday (29.11.08), in the next round of the London Intermediate Cup.

Stones washed aside
Report from Brian "no nickname" Lee
A damp & Dreary Cobdown Sports Ground was this weeks venue for Wayne Barrett's young improving side.
With only Danny "card happy" Tarrant sitting out the final game of his ban being the only absentee and with Lee"the tank" Dawson back Wayno had a strong squad to choose from.
Both teams started brightly & there were very few chances early on with Mead's back line being well marshalled by Danny"expenses" Willis & George "the bear" Smith.
On 28 mins the breakthrough came, a well worked move including a neat one-two between Ross "Mr Lover" Lover & Dave "Weird beard" Batt ended in the former smashing an unstoppable left, (yes I said left) foot shot high into the top left corner of the Maidstone net. .
Into the second half and The Mead started to dominate,a flowing move down the left gave Jack "baby face" a great chance to extend the lead but his shot crashed against the bar, more good chances fell to Danny "15 pints" Chapman who tried his luck from 25 yard & young Gabriel Momodu who blasted over the bar from close range .
Finally the lead was doubled on 68 mins when a defensive clearance was charged down by the Lee Dawson & Dave Batt raced through one on one to poke the ball under the Stones keeper. Trailing 2-0 the opposition lost some discipline with a few reckless tackles but thankfully they were off target just like some of the shooting on view.
With darkness rapidly falling the referee found 8 minutes in injury time from somewhere, the hosts pulled one back in the 96th minute but we managed to hold on for another well deserved 3 points. After the final whistle Aaron John Jeffery lost his cool & picked up an unnecessary yellow card but overall another satisfying days work.
The result put a big smile onto Mead manager Wayne Barrett's face, he was so happy with the win it nearly made him go to the bar & buy everyone a drink....................................... I did say nearly. Ryan "Daddy Reg" George added "I've only ever seen Wayno go to the bar twice before and one of those was to ask for where the toilets were !!!!

Ressies cup success
The Reserves are through to the next round of the London Intermediate Cup, after a comfortable 11- 2 victory away at Clapton.
Leading 2 - 0 at half time, after goals from Ross Lover and Lea Dawson, Clapton scored immediately after half time to make the score 2 - 1.
However, a further three for Ross Lover and one for Lea Dawson, as well as one for Dave Batt, Jack Hopkins, O.G. and two for Chris Borchescu, one either side of a second goal for Clapton, rounded off the scoring.
The Reserves will be away to Bridon Ropes in the next round.
This Saturday the Reserves have a league fixture away at Maidstone Utd.

GLAD ALL DOVER !!
A much depleted reserve side took the long journey down the South coast to Dover on Saturday & claimed a well deserved victory.
With the 1st team calling on the talents of Adam "ginger" Woodward, Laurence "happy" Collins & Marc "Troy Bolton" Merridan, with Danny "card happy" Tarrant suspended, Chris "Ronaldo" Borchescu out with Romanian Flu & Bobby "sick note" Corbyn of course injured, we were down to the bare bones.
An open first half hour saw many good opportunities spurned by Mead, the best of which fell to Jack "baby face" Hopkins who contrived to hit the goalkeeper from 2 yards out. Then on 32 mins a raking 35 yard pinpoint pass from George "The Bear" Smith was controlled immaculately by Dave "weird beard" Batt into the path of Jack Hopkins who made no mistake from 20 yards to put the Mead into a deserved lead. A few other chances fell to the usually prolific Batt but he was unable to double the lead. On the stroke of half time the home side hit the bar with a good effort but it was the closest they came to beating Gary Hicks on his Thamesmead debut.
Into the 2nd half another debutant Gabriel Momodu who made the step up from youth to reserve level with ease could have put the game "Out of Reach" of a strong Dover side, but their best player on the day the goal keeper was having a good day.
On 69 mins a mazy run from Jack Hopkins came to an abrupt end when he was upended inside the box. Dave Batt took the responsibility of taking the penalty but his scuffed effort was saved by the Dover Keeper. Luckily the Ref had spotted an infringement & the retaken spot kit was tucked away by the leagues top scorer.
A delighted Mead manager Wayne Barrett, said "it was the best team performance of the season so far, the lads were excellent". He went on "every single one of the lads played well, they've now set the standard I expect every week, when all the lads are fit & and well, I will have a selection headache" !!

3 points, as Reserves move up to Second.
The Reserves moved up to second in the table, after a comprehensive 3 - 0 win at home to local rivals Erith and Belvedere.
The Mead took the lead as early as the third minute, when Dan Willis met a free kick at the far post, finishing at the second attempt after the first effort was blocked on the line.
Mead took the game to The Deres for the remainder of the half and only some outstanding goalkeeping and some wayward finishing prevented a different score at half time.
Erith came out the brighter at the beginning of the second half, although rarely troubling the Mead defence.
15 minutes into the half Mead doubled the lead, when captain Laurence Collins met a Danny Chapman cross at the far post, with a fine finish.
With Mead having the better of the remaining 30 minutes, the score line was completed 5 minutes from the end, when Ross Lover finished well from close range.
Another well deserved three points, for Wayne Barrett's young side.
Wednesday 1 October
Borchescu strikes twice as Reserves win again.
The Reserves won again, as they recorded a 3 - 1 win in the league, at home to Folkestone on Saturday.
A header from Chris Edwards after 23 minutes, his first of the season, following a good work from captain Laurence Collins, helped settle the nerves.
This lead was doubled just before half time with Chris Borchescu getting his first of the afternoon, to make the score 2 - 0 at half time.
Any chance of Folkestone claiming any points from the match, passed when Borchescu scored direct from a corner 18 minutes into the second half.
Folkestone did however manage a consolation near the end, when a corner was badly defended, which resulted in a Lea Dawson own goal.
Still a sound 3 - 1 victory sends the Reserves up to Third Place in the league.
They are without a league fixture this week,.
Wednesday 24 Spetember 2008
Reserves progress again.
The Reserves progressed into the next round of the Kent Intermediate Cup on Saturday at the expense of Hythe.
A goal from Chris Borchescu within the first 10 minutes, saw the Mead go in 1 - 0 at half time.
The second half saw Hythe come at Mead and equalise after 15 minutes.
Mead had to wait until the final 5 minutes to avoid extra time, when a penalty from Danny Tarrent and a first of the season for Dan Willis, saw the Reserves win 3 - 1.
In the next round the Reserves will be at home to either Deal or Herne Bay.
Thursday 18 September 2008
10 man Reserves see off V.C.D.
The Reserves progressed through to the next round of the Kent League Division 1/2 Cup on Wednesday night.
Dave Batt gave Mead the lead just before half time, only for V.C.D. to level the scores 10 minutes into the second half. Danny Tarrent saw red as Mead were reduced to 10 men, midway through the half.
Dave Batt scored what was to be the winner with 10 minutes to go and still found time to have a goal disallowed for what would have been his hatrick, thanks to a dubious off side decision.
They now face the winners of Erith & Belvedere or Deal Town, away in the next round.
