Holmesdale 1 Thamesmead Town 2
By Mead reporter Kevin White
Thamesmead came away from the Bank Holiday Monday with all three points, but not before being tested by a resolute Holmesdale side.
Holmesdale's pace caused the Mead defence problems in the first half with two close efforts on goal early in the half and a long range shot rattling the Mead bar on eighteen minutes. Their persistance lead to the first goal of the game a couple of minutes later. With Byron Thomas unmarked out wide right, he was able to supply a cross to the far post which was met by Hatt to head home.
Mead rallied well from here, with Dimmock working hard and nearly producing the equalliser on a couple of occasions, the closest of which struck the bar on 28 minutes.
Rikki Cable had a frustrating day, constantly getting shut down by two defenders. It was this determined defending, which thwarted Mead efforts and made it look like Holmesdale going in at half time with the lead intact. That was until Pedro Knight popped up at the far post to nod Mulholland's corner in to the back of the net, right on the stroke of half time.
Mead took control of the second half but were let down in attack by giving the ball away easily at times. The introduction of Bradley Killick, on for the hard working James Brown, added an injection of pace in to the Mead atttack. Linking up with Williams, this caused trouble for the Homesdale defence on the edge of the box.
The pressure paid off on 72 minutes as Richard Dimmock outpaced the last defender to reach a loose ball and slot home the winner.
Four points from six gained away from home this bank holiday weekend, Mead boss Keith McMahon is left a happy man. "Two tough places to visit, an appauling pitch at Herne Bay on Saturday, I'm happy with four points."
The Mead now look forward to possible F.A. Cup glory on Saturday, at home to friendly rivals Whitstable.
