Herne Bay 0 Thamesmead Town 0
By Mead reporter Kevin White
It was honors even at Winches Field as a well organised Thamesmead were tested by Herne Bay in the summer heat.
Mead were without Richard Dimmock (away) who would have made a return to his old stomping ground and also Sam Thomas, who could be out of action for a while following a reoccouring back injury.
Thamesmead dictated the game in the first half an hour with chances from Rikki Cable going just wide and a Cutis Williams shot saved at close range by the outstretched Delo in the Bay goal. However, Thamesmead's usual freeflowing football was hard to come by due to a poor quality pitch.
Connealy was then called in to action as Herne Bay piled on the pressure. First he turned a shot around the post to deny Harvy by diving down low and then towards the end of the half, tipping a volley from the troublesome Bremner over the bar.
Herne Bay continued to pressure from the start of the second half and were meanacing down both wings but the Mead stayed well organised at the back, with Conneally remaining vocal and Coburn and Watts marshalling the defence well.
The second half failed to produce as many chances as the first on both sides, however the introduction of young right winger, Ebenezer Macade in the second half was encouraging. A very speedy player who beat defenders time and again with his pace, he could well be another youth player to look out for at the Mead in the coming weeks.
You would have to go back to 18 months to have witnessed Thamesmead's last goal less draw, let's hope that the next one is no sooner!
