Weekly Blog Issue 23 - Trophy win, Kent Senior Cup loss, Bayliss Avenue, end of Charlton Choice...

Right this will have to be done quickly as this week has caught up with me after a long day at a meeting and getting home and then a trip to Scotland shortly for a few days to catch up with family.

The Mead's playing week first, last Saturday we made progress in FA Trophy with 3-2 win over Whitstable Town, Keith has a soft spot for them I know, and it was a good game with us not getting going early, a few Mead players struggling with injuries and they just about deserved to be ahead, but Keith made some astute substitutions which changes the flow of the game and the Whitstable keeper gave us a hand too, but fluffing Theo's effort. So in the end I thought we deserved the win and we face Enfield next Saturday in the next round, and we are another £2k better off from Cup football this season. On Tuesday, we hosted Tonbridge in the Kent Senior Cup with Keith not being as radical with his team selection as I though he might be, but with some players rested due to them carrying injuries. Tonbridge being a couple of steps above us, we just a little bit sharper in thier passing and movement and although we battled hard they got goals at the right times and we could not find the net, so the 3-0 loss was maybe a little harsh but the battling qualities of the team are a great sign. So the Mead head for a long trip to face Soham Town Rangers for the first time tomorrow and then return to Cup Action on Tuesday evening when they face the holders, Wingate & Finchley in the rebranded Ryman League Cup which is now called the Alan Boob Cup.

News has come out from Keith in the last week that the redevelopment of Bayliss Avenue now has a target completion date of late January 2012. So it seems we are finally heading towards getting this delivered, and the good news is the work being done on the 3G pitch which should be ready in a few weeks and will give the Mead a much needed training base which all teams can use. We just need to hope this will prove a catalyst for moving the club evne further forward in the future.

CharltonChoiceTV, for a reason I am not wholly briefed on, has ceased to exist this week, so the good work Keith and myself were doing with them which I feel was giving the club more exposure has gone for the time being. This is an area I feel that it is my job to move the club forward in and need to think and talk to some people about what we can do media wise. It is sad, because getting stuff on their website was getting us exposed to a wider audience.

So that about sums up where we are, and as I said sadly I will miss the next couple of Mead games, but I was hoping to get to see Hamilton tomorrow but that depends on how my Sister is when I get to Hamilton later today, so we will see. Hope the Mead can get a positive result tomorrow, Sohan sdo far have drawn quite a few games, but I am sure if everyone is fit and raring to go, the Gaffer will be expecting a win, maybe a text to me with the score would be great too, please.

Up the Mead :-)
