So another week has drfited past, and it was hectic one for me with a trip to Scotland, and then back in time for the Mead's home game on Tuesday evening. Well I was visiting my Mum and Sister, who sadly at the moment is not that great, the Mead travelled to Ware and from the Gaffer's notes in Tuesday's programme were presented with a pitch which was not great. Something about pot holes, bit like most of the roads these days!!!! The Mead went behind but thanks to Danny Penny got back level and then were playing against 10 men and then 9 men when a Ware player was sent off for handball on the line. Rikki Cable missed the penalty but from the corner Danny Penny headed a second to put the Mead ahead. Gaffer then said we lost our shape and did not kill the game off and let the 9 men of Ware worry us, but the Mead held on for a first league win, which came on the back of the FA Cup win, the week before.
So on Tuesday evening, we hosted Potter's Bar at Bayliss Avenue and ended up with a 5-0 win, our best performance for a while. Potter's Bar to be fair did not offer much and the Mead took advantage with a great performance from Theo F-J, who danced past a few defenders before a cool finish to give the Mead the lead, and then a few minutes later Dean Standen collected a loose ball and hit a great shot over their keeper and in off the bar, Dean had hit the post before the first goal and sadly hurt his ankle not long after scoring and had to go off. Jake Burman come on and slotted into the midfield. The Mead got the third goalearly in the second half from Theo and they two lates goals from Rikki Cable and Bradley Killick to give our goal difference a much needed boost and we climbed into a mid table postion after 6 games and have a platform to build on in the league.
We now face a trip tomorrow down to Shoreham on the South Coast for the FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round battle which gives us an opportunity to make progess and earn some more funds from the FA. The Mead are taking a coach (not a bus), and it leaves Hall Place in Bexley at 1115am, I myself will be coming along and my wife and daughter are going to lend their support to the Mead as well. Our car has it's MOT at 8am in the morning and then we plan to take a slow drive down to the game, have some lunch somewhere and then come and see if we can cheer the Mead on to the next stage.
I did over an hours work on the website last night, as I had fallen a bit behind we being away, although I have been trying to keep the front page as up to date as we can, and in comparing this we other clubs, I feel we are doing ok if we can get a short report and score up not long after a game is completed. Still some other bits and pieces I want to do, and getting photos on of U18's and U14's is one of the tasks.
Finally, Terry Hill, the Mead chairman has done a brillant job in organsing a Re-Union game for this Sunday at 1pm, the bar will be open and we are charging £5 entry for the game with a programme for £1 and the plan is to have the Man Utd v Chelsea game on Sky in the clubhouse after the game too, when a bit of social time can be had, and this will be a good afternoon. I have agreed to come aling with my camera and try and get a few good pictures of the event.
Up the Mead :-)
