Weekly Blog Issue 13 - Emirates Cup and Pre-Season continues!!!!!

Well another week has flown by, probably due to be overloaded with work at the moment and this blog is being written as the working week draws to a close. Since last week, I have attended the Emirates Cup last Saturday with daughter, so missed the chance of a trip to Ramsgate where the Mead lost 6-3 in a friendly, have to say when I got the text from Albert whilst sitting in the Emirates Stadium, I though he has mis-typed the result. Apparently the Mead played well at times and it could have been 8-8, Tozer on Facebook in reply to a comment said it was a bad day at the office, see how our captain can put things in perspective!!!! Then on Tuesday night I was at the O2 to see the Pink Floyd Show which myself and the father-in-law enjoyed and I therefore missed the Meads first pre-season win as they defeated Sittingbourne 3-2 with a last gasp winner from the returning Rikki Cable, it is good to see Rikki back at the club and he could be the missing link up front as David Noel and Theo Fairweather-Johnson look to have bags of potential and will develop as the season progresses.

Last night I made it over to Bayliss Avenue and the Mead put in their best performance of the pre-season so far, as they beat Whitstable Town 4-1, and that was an encouraging result against a team at the same level. David Noel with two, Rikki and Theo got the goals and look menacing all game. As usual in friendlies the level tends to drop a bit in the 2nd half when teams make changes, but the Mead stuck with only making a few changes and the team looked very solid. The Gaffa had brought together a very strong looking squad ahead of the 2010/11 and pre-season is now entering its final phase with games still coming thick and fast with East Thurrock at home on Saturday (will miis that as going to Titanic Exhibition at O2!!!), Holland & Blair to come at home next Tuesday and then away trips to Phoenix Sports and Canvey Island to end the pre-season games.

I have done some more minor work on the website this week, and had a very constructive meeting with the Gaffa and the Youth Managers last Monday to see what we can do on the site for them, so some work to do to give all team's thier own page which can be updated and also a fixtures/ results page to track their progress. It was good to meet the managers and I am getting my face known around the club, well it is hard to forget a Scotsman!!!!!

So, short match reports on friendlies will continue to appear promptly I hope and I need to practice match reports to be ready for the season and getting reports into the Non-League Paper, which you only get 150 words for. The Programme will be a big challenge but I am looking forward to it and seeing what we can do, the on-going issue of attracting more support is something I think aboout alot but there is no easy solution.

Until next week, Up the Mead :-)
