Well another week has whizzed by, Coalition government has a lot to answer for, but I promise no mention of phone hacking here!!!!!
The Mead faced thier first friendly on Tuesday evening at Bayliss Avenue when Maidstone United visited. They had played one game already and in truth looked a little sharper in the early stages and got behind the Mead defence to score and added a second before half time. It was good to see Lewis Tozer back and playing and the Gaffer tried out a new formation in the first game, and in the 2nd half the Mead passed the ball better and got a goal back through a good diving heade from big Callum. I though in the first half, new signing Joe Horlock looked good on the ball and passed it well, getting to know names at this stage of the season is hard with trialists and younsters getting games. After the game I spoke briefly to Keith and he seemed to think it was a good work out and no doubt last night in training there were things to work on and preparation for tomorrow's friendly at home with Welling United.
It was strange on Tuesday night heading into the Committee Room, but it has been great to help out more over the last month or so and I am slowly but surely getting the hang of updating the website and di my first short report. Need to practice doing reports for when the League Season starts as well to get an indea of what you can include. Keith has also this week been speaking to Stephen McCartney of the Kentish Football site, and two very good articles have appeared, one talking about the squad changes and players moving on and the other about the new facilities and the hopes we have for that. The work on the 3G pitch is due to start soon, and hopefully completion will not hit any more glitches now and by Christmas we wiill be sitting in our new facilites having a drink and toasting being top of the league (ok I am dreaming a bit there).
Last night, I went to the Europa League game at Craven Cottage with some work colleagues who are football nuts, Fulham beat Crusaders 4-0 to progress and I enjoyed the experience of seeing my first European game at the age of 42!!!!!
Short report of the Welling friendly to hopefully appear Satruday evening, and then we have a friendly at home with Dartford to follow next Tuesday (26th July) as the pre-seaon begins to build.
Up the Mead :-)
