On a lovely sunny, warm April afternoon, with the Bayliss Avwenue pitch rock hard the Mead faced a Gray's side, which thinking about it would have been very unlikely a few years ago. The crowd was a little larger than normal thanks to a vociferious Gray's support and the Mead started the game similarly to last Tuesday, pinging the ball about and creating half chances. And then bang, a break by Gray's saw their No.11 Fontaine, hit a shot which bounced awkardly and deceived Sam Mott. The Mead keep playing well and the twins were causing problems and Marcus Perona was buxxing around the middlle of the park. More half chances came, one which one of the twins should have done better with, and then bang it happened again. Grays found their No.11 in space on the edge of the box and he curled a shot past Sam to make it 2-0. The referee then bottled the one big decision of the match when a clear hand ball biy a Gray's defender in the box was ignored, and this lead to the Mead assistant being ordered from the dug out and ending up over beside us.
This showed our luck or break are just not with us at the moment and in the 2nd half the Mead continued to try and play football and had more half chances without forcing ex-Mead keeper Steve Northwood to make to many saves. We just need a change in luck or a break to get that win before the season comes to an end in a few weeks.
Next Saturday the Mead face another hard home game with Enfield the visitors to Bayliss Avenue and then in the evening the Mead are hosting an benefit event for Lewis Tozer, good to see Lewis and AC supporting the boys again on Saturday, and good to see ex-Mead players to Northy and Junior who are both at Gray's now. I suspect in a way the end of the season can't come quicly enough, but I hope we can find the will to finish on a positive note.
Up the Mead :-)
