Must have been the cold that led to you getting the wrong team first time round!!!!! It was a bitterly cold evening over in Tilbury, the first time I had been over there for quite a few years even though I spent 7 years working in Tilbury Docks for HM Customs & Excise. The pitch was not in the best condition and given the rain in the area recently I did wonder if the game would go ahead. Scot M came over to me and Mark when the team were warming up and said it was the worst pitch he had seen. From Saturday the only change to the team was the return of the skipper from suspension and the Mead started off well and got behind the Tilbury defence a few times without the killer ball and finish. The wind was causing some problems with the ball holding up and Tilbury never showed anything foorballing wise but were able to create some pressure with long wind assisted balls. The only and winning goal come about mid way through the first half and saw a wonderful cross from Ashley Proberts converted by Sols Patterson, in his 2nd appearance. A few minutes after that Raph got down the wing and crossed for his twin Gabs who should have increased his tally but then headed over. And as my fingers and feet froze, Mark very kindly bought me and Scot's Dad a soup. The second half was not great, the Mead seemed to resort to long balls looking for the runs of Sol and Gabs and that was understandable given the state of the pitch which made passing difficult. The Mead had a few chances to get the much needed 2nd goal, Raph again crossed for Gabs anf this time the header smacked the bar, AC when he came on had a couple of half chances, but in the lat 10 mins we became to sit deeper and deeper and allow Tilbury to build some pressure which was defended resolutely apart from one chance in stoppage time which was blocked on the line with Tilbury players claiming it had gone over the line. So all in all a hard fought win on a cold, windy night in Essex which bring a vital 3 points, as Lomond said moves us up to 2nd on goal difference, and ok Needhan Market have played a few games less but we are will in the hunt for a play off place at this point and need to keep picking up points. Saturday will be another tough game when East Thurrock United make the trip across the Thames.

Up the Mead :-)
