Double for Gabs just not enouigh and late penalty robs the Mead of a win!!!!!!!

Well today was one of the better games this season at Bayliss Avenue, two team who again were well matched and it was the Mead who got off to a bright start and took the lead after 10 mins or so, when Gabs danced across the edge of the box and sent a low shot into the corner. Gabs had another chance when a diagonal ball saw him free and his first time shot flashed across goal. The other gilt edged chance of the first half saw Lea Dawson get into a prime position only to see the Subbury goalkeeper pull off a good save. At the other end I don't recall Sam Mott have too much to do as the Mead defenced resoluterly in the first half with the new No.5 doing well along side Calum and Danny. You alsways feel when your team don't take chances that it will come back to bite you, and 10 minutes into the second half, Sudbury equalised when a period of pressure saw the ball drop in the box and be hooked home. The Mead had to start again and a good period of play saw some dangerous crosses and chances go by. Then a surging rum by Scot M ended with him being tripped just inside the box and a penalty was awarded. Gasbs stroked it home confidently to put the MEad back in front and then they were holding on ok as time ticked down. However, in the 2nd minute of stoppage time a shot was blocked on the line by a Mead defender and the ref decided it was with a hand and once that was decided a red card was going to folow which is did for the Mead No.5. Sam Mott made a valiant effort to save the spot kick but it squeezed in and tied the score up. The games continued until nearly 7 mins had been added on, after only 4 were shown.

I felt the Mead edged the game and if we had been more clinical then 3 points would have been gained instead of one. So it is on to Tilbury on Tuesday evening when I hope to make the trip across the Thames after I have an interview to become a trustee of Trust Thamesmead. Best wishes to Keith with his kidney stone problem. And gain today we were missing Campbell, through injuty and Tozer and Marcus through suspension.

That's my effort less than an hour after the game finished!!!!

Cheers :-)

Yes, when writing my missive an hour after the game I could not recall the new player's names straight away, I thought Avery and Patterson both looked good signing and add more to the swuad which Keith has build and keeps trying to improve. Just read Robert's report on the site and we thought the Avery was indicating that ball hit his leg not hand, so we have been the victims of another terrible decision which has cost us points. We don't seem to be getting much rub of the green from the men in black at the moment. I hope to make to over to Tilbury tomorrow night to see if we can get three points there :-)
