The Mead endured a very frustrating afternoon at Bayliss Avenue as they drew with a Romford side who were down to ten men within the first 15 mins, when a mistake by their goalkeeper allowed Scot Mulholland to hook the ball goalwards, it hit a Romford defender and the linesman and the referee decided it was a penalty and then there was no option but to send the player off, this was the first of many strange decisions from the Ref who was as bad to both sides throughout the game. Gabrial M, struck the penalty own and the Mead had the chance to take a grip on the game, howeever to Romford's credit they did not let their head's drop and at times in the remainder of the first half you had to ask yourself what team had ten men. Romford got their reward five mins before half time when a mistimed challenge by Lea Dawson in the area give Romford a penalty which was struck home to tie the score at 1-1. The Mead had chances in the second half as did Romford and also a couple of decent penalty shouts which were no worse than the one the Ref gave Romford but no other goals were forthcoming and the Mead had to settle for a point, which will feel like 2 points lost.
Also it was disappointing to read Keith's programme notes about the problems wth the 3G pitch, and I really do hope that something can be sorted out in the next week or so, it would be frustrating for the club if they cannot get to use the 3G pitch as was planned.
On the Mead go and they have a tough trip on Tuesday night to face Heybridge for the first time and then it is back home to face Waltham Abbey next Saturday when I will hopefully be at the game.
Up the Mead and cheers :-)
