The Mead com[pleted thier pre-season schedule with a well deserved narrow win against Faversham Town on a sunny, wet and windy afternoon at Bayliss Avenue. It was good to talk to a few of the Mead's key players and Mark who does the tannoy announcements. With quite a few players nursing niggles according to the Gaffer it was an experimental line up who played good controlled football in the first half and could have been a few goals in front. The second half saw the usual raft of changes in these type of games and it looked like the match was drfting towards a goal less draw when right at the death, and it was into injury time according to my timie keeping, a good through ball sent a triker whose names escapes me through and he turned the keeper and his shot was blocked by the arm of a defender from Faversham and the ref quite rightly gave the Mead a penalty. AC stepped up to fire the ball high into the net and win the game. Now some of the tackling was certain not of a freindly nature, and it looked like Peter Moore picked up a knock, and I know from chatting to the Gaffer and some of the players that a few others are carrying knocks. So I hope they can train and rest this week and be fit for the start of the league campain next week. Best for me today for the Mead were, the No. 6 Alifie Munday I think, only 16 I am took, but looked calm and assured and certainly did not look out of place, the twin who started was good again, and the new signing who was the No.3 looks good. Lea Dawson whas chatting to me before the game and is still awaiting news on his injury getting resolved and he was hoping to train this week. So, as I am not going to see some home games for a little while due to holiday in Scotland and then a family wedding, I am seriously thinking about coming along next Saturday to Needham Market for the first league game. Finally I unsterstand that Keith had to make a decision on the goalkeeping shirt and went with Sam Mott which has lead to Steve Northwood heading off, I will miss the banter we had with Steve and wish him well. All the remains for me to do tonight, it is wish Keith and his staff, and all the players all the best for a successful season. My targets would be to try and stay in the running for the play-offs, to reach the 3rd qualifying round of the FA Cup, try to get through of couple of rounds in the FA Trophy. Not expecting much I am!!!!!!
I am off to Newcastle for a couple of days this week with my work which will be fun, not!!!!
Cheers :-)
