Beckenham Town 1 - Thamesmead Town 1
By reporter Kevin White
Mead goalkeeper Steve Northwood was rarely troubled in a scrappy match that Thamesmead dominated. The first half had very little entertainment until Mead went a goal up on 37 minutes when Sam Thomas controlled James Brown's nodded down ball with his left foot and then struck a beautiful looping shot over the Beckenham keeper with his right foot in to the top corner. A goal reminicent of his cracker at Herne Bay last week.
Just two minutes in to the second half, an offside decision was too vigarously disputed by Becks manager Jason Huntly and he was dismissed from the dugout. Mead kept pressing for a second but were left frustrated more often than not by wayward shots and a stubborn Beckenham defence.
Thamesmead's side was weakened, after inluential midfielder James Brown had to be helped off on the 72nd minutes, sustaining an injury after landing awkwardly.
Tempers flared in the 82nd when Sam Thomas was hacked down on the right wing by Wilson. A melle ensued which resulted in Wilson being yellow carded for the original foul and the Beckenham goalkeeper for discent.
Against the run of play, Beckenham managed an equaliser on the 89th minute when Wilson broke down the wing and mishit his cross, which ran across the edge of the six yard box to be met by Glasgow, who was totally unmarked and able to slot the ball home low in to the net.
Beckenham could have won the match just two minutes later when Glasow was again unmarked and able to power a shot low to Northwood's left. The shot looked goalbound, but Nothwood's agility saw him dive quickly to turn the ball round the post.
With Whitstable losing to Erith & Belvedere today, this has to be seen as two point lost rather than a point gained on the leaders.
